Ironically, the decision to silence Major Stephen Coughlin by firing him will draw significant attention to his message, namely, that "moderate" and "extreme" Islam are opposed only in temperature and timing, but not in doctrine. The fact that three-quarters of Muslims wish for a caliph as well as the global imposition of sharia, point to the fact there is very little difference between so-called "moderates" and "extremists". Coughlin points out how the 1915 Fatwa of the Caliph of Istanbul led to the genocides of some 3.5 million dhimmified Christian subjects of the Turkish Empire. It was done purely in the name of Islam and in the context of a universal declaration of jihad called by the Caliph, the supreme ruler of all Muslims. While Arabs and other Muslims did not rise up against the European powers, ordinary Turks and Kurds did. Why would ordinary Muslims of today not rise up to the call of significant Islamic authority ot the call of jihad?
I encourage everyone to read Stephen Coughlin's brilliant thesis "To our own detriment: Ignoring what "extremists" say about Jihad".
